Leading journalist Imran Riaz Khan, who was critical of the government, has been arrested by the police, which has also been confirmed by the provincial law minister and Imran Riaz's lawyer.
According to Express News, Imran Riaz Khan was returning to Islamabad from Peshawar when he was arrested near Islamabad Toll Plaza. A large number of police personnel were present on the occasion.
Police sources told Express News that after receiving instructions from Lahore, Imran Riaz was arrested and his mobile phone, wallet and all other items were seized by the police. Attempts are being made to cover up the arrest. But then after the footage came to light, Attock police confirmed the arrest.
After the arrest, PTI leaders including Chairman Imran Khan, Asad Umer, Fawad Choudhry, Shahbaz Gill and others raised voices in support of the journalist and condemned the act.
Former Prime Minister Imran Khan tweeted and said, I strongly condemn the arbitrary arrest of @ImranRiazKhan by Punjab police tonight. The country is descending into fascism just to make our nation accept an Imported Govt comprising of mega crooks. It is time for everyone, esp the media, to unite & stand up against this fascism.
PTI secretary General Asad Umer condemned the arrest. He said expression of opinion should be met with counterarguments instead of arrest.
