Agha Habeeb Muhammad Al-Afari, one of the oldest guardians who looked after the chamber of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) passed away on Wednesday afternoon, the Saudi authorities have announced.
The Saudi authorities said that Al-Afari was ill for quite some time.
The Holy Mosques said on Twitter, “Agha Habeeb Muhammad Al-Afari, one of the oldest guardians of Masjid an-Nabawi, whom Allah singled out for serving the chamber of our Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him), passed away today, Wednesday.”
It is to be noted that Al-Afari has been guarding the chamber for a period of over 40 years.
The funeral prayer was performed after the Maghrib prayer at Masjid an-Nabawi in Madinah.
The chamber of Prophet Muhammad PBUH is also known as the sacred chamber or Rawdah Mubarak.
The chamber is the place where Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) is buried along with Abu Bakar (RA) and Umar (RA).
The chamber is right under the Green Dome of the Masjid an-Nabawi.
The Masjid is the second largest mosque in the world after the Masjid Al-Haram in Makkah.
