A video of a New York police officer on horseback chasing a thief through the streets of New York has gone viral on social media.
The mounted police was patrolling the area when he noticed the suspect on foot.
The suspect matched the description given to the officer about a robbery at a sunglass exhibit in the area.
The accident happened over the weekend.
The Police wrote on Twitter, “All of your NYPD officers are involved in crime reduction, even the four-legged ones.
Saturday evening, a male robbed a sunglass vendor in Times Square, but a
@NYPDSpecialops Mounted officer was hot on his trail. With assistance from nearby officers an arrest was quickly made.”
Police said the man took a pair of sunglasses from the exhibit in Times Square without paying.
Then the man would throw a piece of broken glass at the vendor before taking off.
Footage filmed from the officer's body showed him chasing the suspect down the street, staying on his trail.
At one point, the officer and his horse spun in and out of traffic along the road.
The suspect was eventually arrested.
He has been charged with robbery and possession of an unlicensed weapon.
