The Abu Dhabi Police fined 4,200 drivers during the first half of this year for hiding the number plate data of their heavy and light vehicles in a way that made it impossible to clearly see plate numbers or recognize their categories and sources.
As part of their ‘Be Road Safe’ campaign, the Abu Dhabi Police called on drivers not to hide vehicle data in any way whatsoever.
They clarified that article no. 27 (b) of the Federal Traffic Law stipulates that a fine of Dhs400 is imposed on drivers with unclear number plates, stressing their keenness on intensifying traffic control and taking all legal measures to fine any vehicles that do not commit to showing their plate numbers clearly.
They stated that some drivers commit violations that cause their number plates not to be clear. These include using covers that stretch to the level of the number plates, connecting hoses close to the site of the number plate in a way that does not show it well or abstaining from carrying out the necessary maintenance for the site of the number plate regularly, they added.
