Dubai has added a new dimension to its world-class healthcare infrastructure, with the recent introduction of a revolutionary facility focused on brain health and ageing.
Aviv Clinics in Dubai opened in April 2021, and more than 1,000 people have benefitted from its unique treatment programme globally. The programme uses Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT).
"The clinic opens a new era of science aimed at changing the way people experience the ageing process", said Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem, Group Chairman and CEO of DP World, which has brought the facility to Dubai.
DP World is a leading provider of worldwide smart end-to-end supply chain logistics. The company is committed to making positive contributions to the communities wherever it operates. In the UAE, where DP World operates its flagship Jebel Ali Port and free zone, Aviv Clinics represents an innovative way to support Dubai and the UAE’s wider ambitions.
"The UAE is shifting its healthcare strategy to focus on helping people live better, pivoting from prioritising youth to focusing on longevity and healthy ageing. The emphasis is on healthy ageing and preserving the knowledge and wisdom of our older generation. To this end, the country continues to encourage innovators in the healthcare sector to bring the latest technology to the market," Bin Sulayem added.
With a rising elderly population and growing concern about old-age care, the UAE is paving the way to changing the way people experience the ageing process, elevating the discourse on healthy ageing. Efforts include developing more senior care facilities and longevity clinics, as well as attracting cutting-edge technologies and investments into the sector.
In 2021, Dubai received 630,000 international health tourists, making it the region’s leading destination for medical tourism. The numbers reflect the level of trust in UAE’s healthcare system, built on a foundation of government support, robust regulation, infrastructure, embracing data and analytics, investing in partnerships and research and the ability to attract the best talent.
Deploying next-generation technologies and innovations with state-of-the-art equipment from Germany, Australia and Israel, Aviv Clinics can help clients across the Gulf and neighbouring regions access the most advanced brain health and performance treatments to take greater proactive control over their ageing process.
The 7,000-square-metre medical facility sits in Dubai’s Jumeirah Lake Towers (JLT) area, where it hosts a specialised team of physicians, neuropsychologists, physical performance, nutrition and ageing experts, and data specialists.
The unique treatment protocol has already demonstrated its potential to contribute to UAE’s healthcare strategy, attracting clients from Saudi Arabia, the UK, Egypt, Thailand and the Philippines.
"When we are young, our body constantly generates new stem cells which help our bodies grow and repair injuries. At a certain age, typically around 50 years old, not only does our natural generation of new stem cells slow down, but we experience a deterioration in our cognitive and physical functionality," said Mike Frayne, CEO of Aviv Clinics Dubai.
"Our body needs stem cells and an environment full of oxygen to supply the energy for the rejuvenation process. The Aviv protocol provides those building blocks. The treatment enables the body to trigger its self-regeneration mechanism to generate new stem cells and blood vessels that can measurably enhance and optimise brain and body performance," Frayne added.
The Aviv Clinics Treatment Programme includes a combination of Aviv’s proprietary HBOT protocol – a non-pharmaceutical, non-invasive method that involves administering patients with 100 percent pure oxygen in a pressurised environment over an extended period – as well as cognitive and physical training, and a personalised nutritional programme, under the supervision of a dedicated team of healthcare professionals.
It is based on more than 15 years of accredited research studying the impact of HBOT on the regeneration of brain tissue.
The programme has proven an ability to treat age-related cognitive and physical decline and to change the way people experience the ageing process. Improvements in memory, attention span, speed of thinking, focus and other executive functions are only part of the benefits of the treatment.
The treatment can also reduce some of the bio-markers related to the development of Alzheimer’s disease, and the deterioration of brain function caused by physical trauma or other medical conditions such as stroke, fibromyalgia, and other indications that result in damaged brain tissues.
