Man to pay lawyer Dhs380,000

The Abu Dhabi Court for Family and Civil and Administrative Cases obligated a man to pay a lawyer’s office Dhs380,000, including Dhs360,000 as fees, in return for filing a lawsuit for a discharge of a Dhs2,500,000 cheque, besides Dhs20,000 in compensation for the damage the office incurred as a result of procrastination.

The details of the case date back to an earlier time, when the lawyer’s office filed a lawsuit demanding that the man pay Dhs360,000, plus a 12% legal interest from the date of filing the lawsuit, and Dhs30,000 in compensation.

The office explained that the man requested the office to file a claim of discharge from a Dhs2,500,000 cheque, and after completing the procedures, the office sent an e-mail to the appellee explaining the fees they deserved and when they asked for the amount, the appellee delayed paying it.

The court clarified that the man received the mail sent to him by the office, in which the value of the fees was mentioned, and accordingly, the office has the right to the fees of Dhs360,000.

The court added that regarding the request for compensation of Dhs30,000, the court considers that Dhs20,000 is enough.
