Flight operations at the Dubai International (DXB) airport were disrupted due to poor weather conditions, which resulted in diversion of 10 inbound flights.
A Dubai Airports spokesperson said, “Dubai Airports can confirm that normal operations at Dubai International (DXB) have been disrupted due to poor weather conditions this afternoon resulting in the diversion of 10 inbound flights to Dubai World Central (DWC) and other neighbouring airports.
Dubai Airports is working closely with airlines and all our service partners to minimise the impact of the disruption and restore normal operations at the earliest. We apologise to our customers for any inconvenience caused.”
According to a flydubai official, the adverse conditions have caused delays to a number of flights.
“The adverse weather conditions in Dubai today (Sunday) have caused delays to a number of our inbound and outbound flights. We are continuing to monitor the situation and we apologise for the inconvenience the adverse weather conditions may have caused our passengers.”
On the other hand, rain lashed separate areas of the UAE on Sunday and after thick dust covered the skies of the country that led to a decrease in the horizontal visibility of less than 500 metres.
This resulted in the flow of wet air masses from the Arabian Sea and the Sea of Oman towards the region and the UAE, which will continue until next Thursday.
Dust and low horizontal visibility of less than 1,000 metres started to appear at Al Ain International Airport and Dabaa in Al Ain at 3:15am, and at Abu Dhabi International Airport, Dubai International Airport, Sharjah International Airport, Al Bateen Airport in Abu Dhabi, Al Dhafra region, and on separate areas of the country.
Moderate to heavy rain lashed Wadi Al Ajili, Massafi, the Shawka-Al Munay`I road, and Alliyat in Ras Al Khaimah at 3:10 noon. Heavy rains also fell on Asfai in Fujairah, the Sharjah-Wadi Al Helou road and a number of regions.
The lowest temperature on the country, 23.5°C was recorded on Sunday on Jebel Jais in Ras Al Khaimah at 5:45 am.
The national centre of metrology (NCM) expected that the Monday weather will be partially cloudy to cloudy and dusty, with the chance of cumulative clouds in the east and south in the afternoon, accompanied by rain.
