Nine people were killed and six others injured in a collision between a truck and a bus, Saturday night, in Bordj Omar Idriss, Illizi province, 1,200 killometres of Algiers, the Algerian Civil Protection Directorate announced on Sunday.
A first statement by the Directorate stated that its units rushed at 10:15pm on Saturday night to the scene of a traffic accident which resulted from a collision between a bus transporting workers and a fuel truck on National Road No. 3 in the Illizi state, which killed eight and injured seven.
In a second statement on its Facebook page, the directorate announced that the death toll had amounted to 9 after the death of one of the injured. According to the annual toll of the Government's National Directorate of Road Safety, in 2021, Algeria witnessed 22,000 traffic accidents, killing 3,061 people and injuring 29,763 others.
According to the directorate in charge of collecting data related to traffic accidents, the human factor, especially reckless driving, is the number one cause of accidents, according to AFP.
