Indian PM Modi expresses grief, offers condolences to Pakistan floods' victims

Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, has expressed sorrow over the devastation caused by monsoon floods in Pakistan. The Indian premier also offered heartfelt condolences to the floods’ victims and their families across Pakistan.

The Indian prime minister took to Twitter and wrote on his official account, Saddened to see the devastation caused by the floods in Pakistan. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims, the injured and all those affected by this natural calamity and hope for an early restoration of normalcy.

In a separate development, Queen Elizabeth says she is deeply saddened by the widespread flooding in Pakistan.

In a message to President Arif Alvi, Queen Elizabeth said: "I am deeply saddened to hear of the tragic loss of life and destruction caused by the floods across Pakistan. My thoughts are with all those who have been affected, as well as those working in difficult circumstances to support the recovery efforts. The United Kingdom stands in solidarity with Pakistan as you recover from these terrible events.”

The message signed "Elizabeth R” was released by Buckingham Palace.

Pakistan has seen exceptionally heavy monsoon rains, which have triggered flash floods, affecting 33 million people and damaging nearly one million homes. The death toll is reported to be at least 1,061 people.

The floods have wreaked immense havoc in Gilgit-Baltistan, Khyber Pukhtunkhwa, and the south Punjab region while Balochistan and Sindh province are the worst-affected.

According to a media reports, Pakistan Finance Minister Miftah Ismail said that the government could "consider importing vegetables and other edible items from India" to facilitate people after floods destroyed crops across the country.

Ismail was addressing a press conference in the capital and made the comment in response to a question, Radio Pakistan reported.
