The Dubai Misdemeanours Court sentenced a 25-year-old Asian to 3 months in jail and fined him Dhs50,000 on charges of swindling the same amount from 5 Arab workers.
He will be deported after serving the jail term. The suspect reportedly promised victims that each of them would be hired as security guard.
The details of the case date back to August 2022, when 5 Arab workers reported that they were defrauded by an Asian company owner, who told them that there were job vacancies as security guards in a company he owned, which specialised in providing security guards and cleaners to other institutions.
The victims added in the interrogations that they did not know each other and that they all received a call from the suspect informing them of the availability of vacancies for Dhs2,000 per month, provided that each one pays Dhs10,000 for the one contract.
The suspect allegedly took the Dhs50,000 from them after he signed the labour contracts and asked them to wait until getting a security guard’s licence, but he disappeared and stopped contacting them.
According to the case file, the suspect was arrested at the Dubai International Airport.
On being questioned, he denied his connection with the victims and also receiving any money from them.
The Public Prosecution submitted the results of the investigations and interrogations to the court, that convicted the suspect and jailed him.
