The Dubai Criminal Court sentenced two persons, including one at large, to six months in prison each and fined them jointly Dhs5,400, for robbing an African at knifepoint.
The convicts would be deported after serving the terms, the Court ruled.
The details of the case date back to last May, when an African, a company’s owner, reported to police that his company had been robbed at knifepoint.
He stated that he had received a call from one of his company’s employees, informing him a number of persons had stormed the company and forced him to give them the money in the safe after threatening to kill him.
A police officer testified that after receiving the report, an investigation team was tasked to probe the incident and identify the perpetrators.
In interrogation, the suspect denied committing the crime, claiming that he was exercising near the crime scene, where he accidentally met the fugitive convict accompanied by others, as the fugitive convict asked him to transport them in his vehicle to the Hor Al Anz area in Dubai.
The convict added that he waited at the location identified by the "fugitive" for about 10 minutes, as he wandered in front of a food company, and then all of them came and asked him to transport them to a neighboring emirate.
