The Dubai Court of Appeal upheld a verdict issued by the Court of First Instance, sentencing a gang of four persons to 3 years in prison each and fined them jointly Dhs1.7 million for robbing a crypto currency trader after assaulting him.
The convicts would be deported after serving the terms, the Court ruled.
The details date back to last March, when an Asian reported that he had been assaulted by unknown persons inside his home in Naif area, and that Dhs1.7 million had been stolen from a safe belonging to his partner.
He indicated that the gangsters tied his hands and feet with a plastic rope and were able to get the key to an iron safe placed under the table. They opened it and seized the money belonging to his partner, and then fled the place.
After that, he was able to untie himself, and called his partner and the police.
The victim's partner stated that he had received a call from his partner informing him that anonymous persons had stolen amount that he kept inside a safe in his apartment. Immediately, he moved to his partner’s flat, where he saw him tied and scared, as the apartment was messed up and the safe was open and empty.
Through the investigations, it was found that the gangsters had illegally infiltrated the country. They were located and arrested following intensified search and investigation.
A part of the stolen amount was found in their possession.
On interrogation they confessed to the robbery and they were referred to the judicial authority for further legal action.
