A car carrying five people was swept away in floodwaters in Al Habileen District, Lahj governorate, south of the Yemeni capital, Sanaa, causing death of the driver’s two daughters, his sister and his nephew.
The incident’s video clip showed a car washed away by torrential water, after a reckless motorist had ventured into the water, attempting to drive through the dangerous road carrying his daughter, his sister and the latter’s son, according to Yemeni media.
“A number of people who were present in the area quickly pulled the man out of the car and transferred him to the hospital, as he sustained several fractures,” the media reported.
Lahj governorate has recently witnessed heavy rain torrents in a number of districts of the governorate, crippling the traffic movement between them and left many people stranded in several areas.
Hundreds of Yemenis died as a result of rain and torrential rain this summer, while more than 300,000 people were affected, according to UN estimates.
