The Abu Dhabi Court of First Instance obligated a man to pay a vehicle rental company Dhs420,000 in addition to Dhs20,000 in compensation for the damages the company incurred after the man rented a vehicle from it and refused to pay the rent.
The details date back to an earlier time when the company filed a lawsuit in which it demanded to obligate the appellee Dhs420,000 and legal interest, and to obligate him to pay Dhs100,000 in compensation for preventing to pay the dues.
The court indicated that the appellee rented a vehicle from the company for a daily rent of Dhs1,000 for 421 days, while he paid the car rental company only Dhs1,000.
The court decided that the company owed the appellee the value of the rent, stressing that the failure to pay it caused damages estimated at Dhs20,000 and then the court obligated the appellee to pay the car rental company Dhs420,000 as the value of the car rent and legal interest 5% annually from the date of the claim until payment, besides Dhs20,000 in compensation, in addition to the expenses of the lawsuit.
