The Dubai Criminal Court sentenced three Asian women to three years in jail and a fourth to three years and 6 additional months and fined them Dhs12,000 on charges of mediating to sell a child under two months of age, who was offered by his mother for sale for Dhs12,000.
They all will be deported after serving their jail terms.
The same court also acquitted the boyfriend of one of the convicts of the charge of abstaining from informing the competent authorities of the human trafficking crime.
The court ordered that the child be taken to a childcare shelter.
The case dates back to last February when Dubai Police received a tip-off that an Asian woman wanted to sell a child, who was less than two months old.
The police set a trap accordingly to arrest the woman and her accomplices.
A policewoman stated that she contacted one of the convicts and agreed with her to buy the child for Dhs12,000.
The convict told the policewoman that she would bring the child from his mother and give him to a third woman for delivery in Jumeirah.
The policewoman added that she arrived at the agreed place where three Asian women were arrested.
One of them led the police to the location of their partner, who was arrested with another person.
On interrogation, the child’s mother admitted that her child was born out of wedlock and she wanted to sell him because she was in need for money.
Another convict admitted that she, in collaboration with the other two convicts, offered the child for sale through social media.
The other person denied knowing his girlfriend’s agreement with the other women and justified his presence with the convict as being his boyfriend.
