The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE) has announced amendments to the Decree-Law of the Regulation of Employment Relationship. Among the new amendments is that the labour contract must cover a defined term, which can be renewed subject to an agreement by both parties to a contractual relationship without a cap on that term-period.
The move comes to ensure rights protection of both parties in a balanced manner, promote the growth and stability of the labor market, and enhance the economic competitiveness of the UAE.
Commenting on the new amendments, Dr. Abdulrahman Abdulumannan Al Awar, Minister of Human Resources and Emiratisation, said, “The UAE government is keen to develop the legislation and laws in line with the development requirements for the next fifty years and in a manner that supports the stability, flexibility and attractiveness of the business environment.”
“The new amendment serves the objectives of creating an advanced system of mechanisms that enhance flexibility of business and productivity of the labor market to attract investors and skilled workers, while enhancing the competitiveness of Emirati national cadres and activating their role in achieving the priorities of the fifty,” Al Awar added.
The Federal Decree-Law on Regulating Labor Relations has created various work patterns that allow employers to meet their labor needs and benefit from their productivity and energies at the lowest operational costs, by working in a full-time, flexible, temporary and part-time mode.
This is in parallel with providing multiple options for employers to employ workers whose contracts have expired through flexible and easy procedures.
