Three jailed and fined on fraud charges in Dubai

The Dubai Criminal Court sentenced two Arabs in presence and another in absentia to six months in jail to be followed by deportation and fined them Dhs100,000 for seizing a vehicle from a Dubai-based car rental office after they had defrauded its representative with a fake tourism company licence.

The case dated to last April when an office representative filed a complaint in which he stated that a vehicle rented in the name of a tourism company had been stolen.

The complainant stated that he received a notification from a company responsible for his office’s vehicle tracking devices stating that the tracking device had been removed from one of the office’s vehicles.

The complainant said he called the lessee but when he did not answer, he called the police, which initiated investigations by tracking the trade licence of the tourism company owner and checking the data recorded in the rental contract, which turned out to be fake.

According to the official documents, a team of detectives managed to reach the suspects, who confessed to forging the expiry date of a defunct tourism company they all used to work in and submitting the same to a car rental office to seize a four-wheel drive vehicle.
