The Al Ain Court of Appeal fined a man Dhs50,000 for insulting the fans of a sports club on social media. Apart from ordering the devices used by the convict to be confiscated and the data related to the offence be deleted, the court ruled that the convict be banned from using twitter for one year.
Earlier, the convict used his account on twitter to post inappropriate images that not only clearly offended the fans of a sports club but also had nothing to do with sportsmanship and honorable competition among UAE clubs and fans and were against ethical behaviours and public morals.
The Public Prosecution initiated investigations into the complaint received.
As the accused confessed to the charges levelled to him, the Public Prosecution ordered that the case be referred to the competent court.
Meanwhile, the Public Prosecution called on the public to be committed to sports ethics by refraining from offending any person or entity and to express their support for their respective teams by other than breaking the law or using disgraceful words, signs or insinuations against others.
