The Ajman Police’s Traffic and Patrols Department seized a Gulf citizen for driving a vehicle recklessly, reversing the direction of traffic on a highway and trying to show off, jeopardizing his life and the lives of others in the Emirate of Ajman. According to Lieutenant Colonel Saif Abdullah Al Falasi, Director of Traffic and Patrols Department at Ajman Police, the control systems in the department’s operations room spotted the reckless driver by tracking him on Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Road in the Emirate of Ajman when he was driving his car at an excessive speed in the opposite direction of traffic.
Later, the driver headed to a residential area and drove his vehicle recklessly without regard to the lives of others, he added, noting that traffic patrols chased him and managed in less than two hours to seize him while driving his Lexus sedan in the Al Tallah area. The 26-year-old driver, will be transferred to the public prosecution for further legal measures, he said.
Al Falasi stated that the vehicle was impounded and the driver’s driving licence was withdrawn for 6 months due to several serious traffic fines. These included a fine of Dhs2,000 plus 60-day vehicle impoundment for driving the vehicle in a way that endangered his life and that of others, Dhs600 for driving the vehicle in the opposite direction and Dhs500 for non-compliance with traffic signs and instructions, he said.
It was also found that the driver previously committed 39 violations that incurred fines of Dhs17,650, bringing to 46 the total black points accumulated by the driver plus a total vehicle impoundment of 127 days, he added. Wishing safety for all, Al Falasi called on drivers to avoid reckless driving as this is not commensurate with the UAE values and customs, threatens the security of road users and has a negative impact on the comfort of residents.
