The Dubai Criminal Court sentenced an Arab national to 5 years in jail and fined him Dhs50,000, on charges of possessing and abusing narcotic substances and facilitating the abuse to others.
He will be deported after serving his prison sentence.
The case dates back to May 2022, when reliable information was received by the General Department of Narcotics Control, alerting that a suspect in the Silicon Oasis area was abusing narcotics and psychotropic substances, and possessed a quantity of them.
After the investigation team confirmed the accuracy of the information, the Public Prosecution issued a warrant, and the suspect was arrested.
When his house was searched, the police found narcotics, and two other men who were in an abnormal condition and smelled of alcoholic beverages, which indicated that they were under the impact of narcotics or psychotropic substances.
On being questioned, the suspects admitted that they had abused hashish which the first suspect provided them with, adding that they had obtained the narcotics free of charge, and that the first suspect had provided them with drugs more than once.
All the suspects were referred to the laboratory, where traces of drugs were found in their samples. The criminal court decided to imprison the first suspect and the misdemeanours court started trying the others.
