In a proactive operation within the ongoing efforts to enhance the security and safety of the community, the Abu Dhabi Police arrested two Arabs on the charge of attempting to smuggle narcotic pills into a neighbouring country.
This was revealed by Brigadier Taher Ghareeb Al Dhaheri, Director of the Anti-Narcotics Directorate at the Abu Dhabi Police.
He stated that the operation was successful after carrying out a tight security plan to track the attempt and monitor the movements of the accused.
“One of the accused was running the operation from outside the country, before he came to complete it by smuggling the narcotics into a neighbouring country, thinking that he was away from eyes of the police,” Brigadier Al Dhaheri said.
In an ambush, the security forces from the Anti-Narcotic Directorate arrested the main accused and his assistant with narcotic pills in their possession, he added.
Brigadier Al Dhaheri explained that the two accused tried through a new method to smuggle the drugs by hiding the pills in the form of rolls inside garbage bags, but their bid had been thwarted.
They admitted that the narcotic pills belonged to them, for peddling. Accordingly, they were referred with the seizure to the Public Prosecution for further legal measures, he added.
The Director of the Anti-Narcotics Directorate at the Abu Dhabi Police emphasised the keenness of the Abu Dhabi Police to combat the scourge of drugs, and to confront it efficiently and proficiently in various modern ways and means.
He further noted that despite the various methods used by the pushers, they always fail, thanks to the vigilance of the police teams and the concerned authorities.
