Floods and several landslides in a southern Philippine province have killed at least 42 people, a senior government official said on Friday, while rescuers continued to search for the missing.
Heavy rain caused by an approaching tropical storm caused floods and landslides affecting several municipalities in Magindanao province, Najib Sinarimbo, Interior Minister of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region, said by phone.
Senarimbo said rescue operations were underway in search of the missing, but he could not say how many. He added that the weather conditions on Friday improved slightly after continuous rain last night.
Senarimbo said he expected the death toll to rise.
