The Dubai Criminal Court sentenced an Asian to one year in jail to be followed by deportation and fined him Dhs360,000 for stealing a valuable watch and jewels estimated at Dhs400,000 from a safe in a villa in Dubai. The court also ordered that the stolen items found in the suspect’s possession be handed over to the villa owner.
The case dated back to last July when a farmer working in a villa in Jumeirah Park in Dubai discovered that the gate of the villa was broken. He told the villa owner accordingly and the latter stated that he went to the villa owned by his wife to find the gate of the villa was broken.
The villa owner said he entered the villa that was in disarray and found that a safe containing a valuable watch of a well-known brand and various jewels belonging to his wife, who was outside the country during the theft was missing and consequently to he reported the incident to the police.
According to the official documents, after gathering inferences and checking the surveillance cameras in the area, a team of detectives managed to identify and arrest the suspect. On interrogation, the suspect confessed to having robbed the villa after making sure that the owners were not inside.
He climbed the fence of the villa and broke its gate to enter the villa where he found a safe, he said, adding that he transported the safe by a vehicle he had rented from a rent a car agency in Dubai. The suspect admitted that he managed to open the safe in his home and found a valuable watch and various jewels inside it.
Later, he offered what he found inside the safe for sale on a social networking app and a person expressed his interest in buying the watch and some of his jewels. So, he sold the same for Dhs60,000 before the police managed to arrest him.
