The police of Erbil Governorate, in Kurdistan, Iraq, announced on Wednesday the arrest of D.G. on charges of murdering her husband, Ahmed Jawad, and burning his body inside the bathroom. Lieutenant Colonel Hoker Aziz, Erbil police spokesman, said that police investigations showed that the victim, 43, an employee of the Ministry of Culture, was killed with a sharp tool before his body was burned.
Aziz stated that the victim had married D.G 7 years ago and they had two children. He indicated that the suspect had informed the police two days ago that her husband had been burned to death in the bathroom of the house, while she was outside with her two children.
Police investigations and forensic report showed that the victim died after being hit on the head with a sharp tool before his body was burned. The police arrested the wife, who confessed to the crime.
D.G confessed that she murdered her husband with a big hammer, hitting him on the head several times while he was sleeping , then dragged his body to the bathroom, poured kerosene on it and burned the body.
Then she left the house with her two children, heading to the market.
Hours later, the wife came home and started screaming, claiming that her husband had been burned in the bathroom. The Erbil police spokesman clarified that the accused would be referred to the judiciary after completing the legal investigations, to be tried on charges of premeditated murder.
