The Dubai Criminal Court sentenced an Arab young man to one year in jail on charges of stabbing his Asian girlfriend with a knife after a dispute between because he suspected she was spying on his phone.
He will be deported after serving his sentence. The appellate court upheld the ruling.
The details of the case date back to February 2022, when an Asian girl filed a complaint alerting that she had been stabbed by her Arab boyfriend.
According to the victim's statement, she was surprised by the accused waking her up, slapping her on the face, and beating her without a reason.
When she asked him why he was doing, he continued to beat her in different parts of her body accusing her of spying on his phone.
She added she asked him to leave the room but he refused and took a knife which was next to the bed and stabbed her several times.
The complainant clarified that she took advantage of the suspect's being in the bathroom, opened the door of the room and attempted to escape, but he caught her, so she screamed for help by the hotel's residents.
Then he begged her not to inform the police and return to the room, but she refused and went to the hospital for treatment and informed the police.
According to the case file, the police summoned the accused, who denied assaulting the victim, stating that he had a relationship with her for 3 years, and that on the day of the incident, he was with her in a hotel in the Muraqqabat area.
He also claimed that she left the room screaming for no reason, and knocked on the door of the next room, so he followed her, grabbed her and pulled her towards the room, but she fell on the floor.
The forensic’s report indicated that the victim sustained injuries caused by a sharp tool, as well as bruises, swelling in the face, and bruises on the arm, right forearm, thigh and left leg, and that her treatment exceeded 20 days, but the injuries did not cause permanent disability.
