The Dubai Misdemeanor Court sentenced a Gulf young man to two months in jail and fined him Dhs20,000 for stabbing an Arab with a knife and causing him injuries that prevented him from conducting his personal activities for more than 20 days.
The court also rejected the civil lawsuit filed by the victim.
The case dates back to last June when a security guard working in a hotel in Al Barsha area in Dubai filed a complaint in which he stated that a nightclub-goer had been assaulted with a knife.
According to the complainant, a dispute erupted between an Arab young man and a Gulf young man as a result of which the latter brandished a knife that he was hiding inside his clothes.
The complainant added that the victim tried to avoid the defendant’s repeated assaults but the defendant managed finally to stab him several times in the arm before the guard and a number of those present managed to bring the defendant under control and report the incident to the police.
The victim stated in the investigations that the defendant thought that he was flirting with his girlfriend while they were in a nightclub.
A verbal altercation followed during which the victim was surprised by the defendant brandishing a knife that was between the folds of his clothes and trying several times to assault him until he hit him in the left hand.
According to the official documents, the defendant confessed to having assaulted the victim with a knife that was in his possession because he flirted with his girlfriend and tried to assault him with the help of another man.
