Social media users in Egypt circulated a terrifying video clip, showing two tourist boats racing in a dangerous way in the waters of the Nile River in Luxor Governorate, southern Egypt.
The Egyptian security services revealed the circumstances of the incident, confirming that the crew of a tourist boat deviated towards another so that they could bypass it for priority transit in Luxor – according to local media.
Investigations revealed that the incident began when the crew of one tourist boat drifted towards another so that they could pass it in order to be the first in the crossing from the Esna Locks in Luxor Governorate, endangering the lives of the passengers on the two floats.
An attempt to race the two boats resulted in the sinking of a fishing boat that was between them, but the two fishermen on board were rescued.
The captains of the two ships were investigated because of the friction of the two ships together while sailing, which caused harm to the tourists on board.
After the investigation, the captain who caused the accident was suspended for 6 months, while the two ships continued their onwards journey to Aswan Governorate.
