His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, on Wednesday, directed to establish a specialized centre for the treatment of mental illness patients in Sharjah.
During an intervention on the "Direct Line” programme broadcast on Sharjah Radio and Television, His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah explained that the centre would perform a semi-custodial work for patients to treat limited numbers of them, and to provide them with the necessary sedation doses, to return to their families in better condition.
Sheikh Sultan further pointed out that the center would provide the complete psychological and physical supervision of patients.
The step came in response to a father's distress, whose son is suffering from mental illness.
It should be noted that the UAE Government is regularly undertaking new measures to address mental health issues and reduce the stigma associated with it.
It has come up with many initiatives for Emiratis and expatriates by giving them access to mental health services and support as required.
