Heavy rain likely to continue till Tuesday in UAE

Rain of varying intensity fell on separate areas across the UAE on Friday as a result of the unstable weather conditions due to end on Saturday. Light rain started to fall at midnight on separate areas of Abu Dhabi Island, Musaffah, Sas Al Nakhl, Yas Island, Al Shamkha, Abu Dhabi International Airport, Al Bateen Airport and separate areas in Abu Dhabi and on Sweihan-Nahel Road in Al Ain.

Meanwhile, heavy rains fell on Ras Musheireb and Makaseb in Al Dhafra Region, Dubai International Airport, Sharjah International Airport and separate areas in Ras Al Khaimah and across the UAE. The lowest temperature of 8.6 degrees Celsius was recorded on Friday in Jebel Jais in Ras Al Khaimah at 6:30am UAE local time.

The temperature was 10.3 degrees Celsius in Jebel Al Mebrah, 13.5˚C in Jebel Hafeet, 13.6˚C in Rakna in Al Ain City and 14.1˚C in Jebel Al Haban. The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) called on motorists to take caution while driving due to the low horizontal visibility caused by the rainfall and dust-stirring winds and to stay away from large puddles and flooded valleys, while the Abu Dhabi Police called on drivers to be cautious due to the rainy weather conditions and to abide by the speed limits as shown on the traffic signs.

According to the NCM, Saturday’s weather is expected to be partly cloudy to cloudy with rains of varying intensity falling on separate areas across the country, especially on the coastal, northern and eastern areas. Moderate to active northeasterly to northwesterly winds will blow, turning to strong at times at 20 to 30 and up to 55 km/h, while the sea will have moderate waves buy may turn to rough at times in the Arabian Gulf and the Sea of Oman, it added.

Sunday’s weather will be partly cloudy in general and cloudy at times on some coastal and northern areas with a chance for rainfall during the day but will be humid at night and on Monday morning on coastal and inland areas, the NCM said. Light to moderate northwesterly winds will blow, turning to active at times at 15 to 25 and up to 40 km/h, while the sea will be rough but may have moderate waves in the Arabian Gulf and the Sea of Oman, it added.

Monday’s weather is expected to be partly cloudy in general and humid at night and on Tuesday morning with a chance for light fog on some inland areas, while Light to moderate northwesterly to northeasterly winds will blow, turning to active at times and the sea will have regular to moderate waves in the Arabian Gulf and the Sea of Oman, it said. Tuesday’s weather will be partly cloudy in general, turning to cloudy on some northern and eastern areas at night with a chance for rains on Wednesday morning, it added.

Light to moderate southeasterly to southwesterly winds will blow, turning at times to active northwesterly winds at night, while the sea will have regular to moderate waves but may become gradually rough at night in the Arabian Gulf, it said, noting that the sea will have regular waves in the Sea of Oman.
