In a horrifying moment, a Russian charter plane’s rear door opened midair putting the lives of passengers aboard in danger.
Local media reported that the incident took place on Monday on an An-26 twin prop plane belonging to IrAero.
The luggage flew into the void from the ageing aircraft.
It is believed that the outside temperature was -41°C when the aircraft took off from Magan, a remote Siberian city, en route to Magadan on Russia's Pacific coast.
The plane was carrying 25 people including six crewmembers.
A dramatic video shared by one of the passengers showed the visible gaping rear door on the plane.
The video also showed the passengers were sitting calmly as some curtains and loose clothes were flapping wildly.
The plane however had to make an emergency landing.
All passengers were safe.
The passenger wrote on Facebook, “They say that in the middle of the flight, the door broke off and the hats flew off from the passengers’ heads. We had to return to the airport of departure in a flying plane with the door open.
“Judging by the video footage, the plane was a millimeter away from the crash, it is obvious that the tragedy was avoided thanks to the fact that the door did not open further.
“The company, judging by the news feeds, decided to rely on Russian authorities and did not give any explanation, although it is obvious that the case smells not just of an investigation, but of criminal cases for those who released this scrap metal into the air.”
