The Dubai Criminal Court sentenced a gang of five Asians to one year in jail to be followed by deportation and fined them Dhs700,000 for stealing cigarettes worth the same amount of the fine from a warehouse in Ras Al Khor Industrial Area in collaboration with others.
The case dates back to November last year when a Gulf investor filed a complaint in which he stated that his company warehouse had been robbed.
The complainant explained that on the morning of the complaint, he received a call from the warehouse keeper informing him that the outer door of the warehouse was broken.
The complainant added in the interrogations that he moved to the warehouse where he found that cigarette boxes worth Dhs700,000 had been stolen
The complainant reported the theft to the police who gathered inferences and analysed the data of the surveillance cameras data installed in the area.
A policeman stated in the interrogations that a team of detectives managed to identify the driver of the truck used in the theft and to arrest him.
On interrogation, the suspect confessed to having robbed a warehouse in Ras Al Khor Industrial Area and transported the stolen items to a sandy area near Jebel Ali in collaboration with others.
The suspect led the detectives to where the stolen items were placed and where his accomplices were staying.
The detectives arrested four suspects of the gang in Ras Al Khor area and recovered the cigarette boxes.
The policeman said four suspects admitted that another suspect who was still at large asked them to rob the warehouse and transport the stolen items against Dhs50 each.
