Maid steals items from employer's Dubai house, asks colleague to cargo them to her home country

The Dubai Court of Appeal upheld a judgment issued by the Criminal Court, which sentenced an Asian maid to six month is prison and fined her Dhs2,000, to be followed by deportation.

The maid was found guilty of stealing valuable items, electronic devices, clothes and kitchenware from her employer’s house.

She reportedly hid the stolen items in boxes in her room, before travelling to her homeland on her annual leave, and asking her colleague to ship the boxes to her homeland.

The case dates back to last July, when a Khaleeji man reported that he had been robbed by his Asian housemaid, who had been working for him for six years.

He explained that his wife had informed him that her laptop and a tablet, alongside precious watches, and jewelleries disappeared from the house.

When the employer asked the workers of the house about those items, they all denied their knowledge about them.

However, the convict was on annual vacation, so he asked her colleagues to search her room, where they found three boxes prepared for shipping.

The maid told the employer that the convict had asked her to ship those boxes to her homeland, but she could not ship them, because the fees were more than the amount left by the convict.

The convict called her many times to know the reason for delay of the cargo, she told the employer. 

As soon as the maid arrived in the country, she was arrested and interrogated. She denied the theft, claiming that her employer’s wife and daughter had given them to her as gifts.

The Criminal Court found the maid guilty of theft, and sentenced to her six months in jail, and fined her Dhs2,000, to be followed by deportation.
