A young Gulf citizen abused heroin and various other narcotics that he obtained from a drug dealer through social media.
Arrested red-handed in his home, the defendant was referred to the Dubai Public Prosecution and from there to the Dubai Misdemeanour Court, which sentenced him to one year in jail.
The case dates back to December last year when a tip-off was received stating that a Gulf citizen in the Oud Al Muteena area purchased narcotics from a drug dealer outside the country.
According to the official documents, the Gulf citizen deposited Dhs3,800 in the drug dealer’s account and a team from the General Department of Anti-narcotics set a trap and arrested the Gulf citizen with a syringe containing suspected narcotics in his possession.
He was referred with the seized materials to the criminal laboratory, where a sample of the material was taken.
The forensic laboratory report stated that the seized material contained heroin, diazepam and psychotropic substances.
Another report by the General Department of Forensic Science and Criminology showed that testing the defendant’s urine sample confirmed the presence of narcotics and psychotropic substances.
During the court session, the defendant appeared and confessed to the charges levelled to him before he asked for clemency.
