Dutch researcher predicts India, Pakistan will be next in line after Turkey-Syria quake

Frank Hoogerbeets, the Dutch researcher who made the headline-grabbing prediction that an earthquake with over 7 magnitude on the Richter scale would occur in Turkey and Syria – three days before it struck – has made another Doomsday forecast. He says a similar quake would rock India, Pakistan and Afghanistan.

He made the prediction on his Twitter page, according to a report in a section of the Indian media.

The epicentre would be in Afghanistan.

The earthquake would  start in Afghanistan and pass through Pakistan, India before ending in the Indian Ocean, he said.

He said that these areas are the most prone to large earthquakes.

An official from Pakistan, Muhammad Ibrahim, posted a video of the researcher’s prognosis on his Twitter page.

However, netizens have flayed the forecast.

The terrain in this region is rough. It is also yet to be proved whether all earthquakes cause major damage.

The quake in Turkey and Syria has killed over 16,000 people. More survivors were extricated from the rubble of collapsed buildings on Thursday, but no matter how much they struggled, hope seemed to be very distant.

According to a report, more than 110,000 rescue personnel are taking part in the effort and over  5,500 vehicles, including tractors, cranes, bulldozers and excavators have been carted to the area.

Teams from more than two dozen countries have joined the local emergency personnel in the effort. However, such is the magnitude of the disaster that many people are still sandwiched between life and death, as they are pinned to the ground by huge blocks of concrete. Many children and women, who could be alive under the rubble, are yet to be rescued.
