Fish ‘raining from sky’ in this remote Australian town

Residents of a remote Australian town were shocked by an unusual sighting of fish falling from the sky during the rain, a phenomenon locals say is unusual but not entirely unprecedented.

Residents of Lajamanu, a town on the northern edge of the Tanami Desert, about 560 kilometers southwest of Katherine, were surprised to see fish falling from the sky during heavy rain, but village elders said that such incidents have happened in the past.

In 2010, the same thing happened in Lajamanu, and previous cases of raining fish from the sky were recorded in 2004 and 1974.

Lajamano local councillor, Andrew Johnson Japanangka, said in a statement that a large storm was seen moving towards his township while locals thought it was just rain. But when it started raining, the locals also saw fish falling from the sky.

According to meteorologists, such events can be caused by large-scale tornadoes that carry water and fish or other small aquatic creatures with them and carry them hundreds of kilometers away with the wind.

According to experts, the fish that fell from the sky were about "the size of two fingers" and were alive.

An expert, who has seen such unusual rainfall before, said the event was a "blessing from God."
