Fog blanketed some coastal and inland areas in the UAE on Sunday morning, which lasted for 9 hours. It started at 1:00 after midnight and continued until 10am , as a result of the country being affected by a weak surface depression from the east and a surface air pressure from the west, accompanied by a low depression in the upper layers of the atmosphere.
Fog started to form on Abu Dhabi International Airport, Mohamed Bin Zayed City, different areas of Abu Dhabi Island, Al Ain City, Al Dhafra region and others.
The lowest temperature on the country, 11.1°C, was recorded on Sunday morning in Barakah in Al Dhafra, at 06:45am, local time of the UAE.
The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) predicted that Monday's weather would be clear to partly cloudy with clouds formation in the east in the afternoon, with a gradual increase in temperatures.
It would also be wet at night and on Tuesday morning with possible fog or light fog formation on some coastal areas, NCM indicated.
Monday's winds will be southeastern to northeastern light to moderate at speeds of 10 to 20 amounting to 30 kilometres/hr, and the sea will be light in the Arabian Gulf and in the sea of Oman, NCM added.
Tuesday and Thursday's weather, according to the NCM, will be generally clear and sometimes partly cloudy in the east in the afternoon. Winds will be southeastern turning to northeastern, light to moderate at speeds of 1 to 20 amounting to 30 kilometres/hr, and the sea will be light in the Arabian Gulf and in the Sea of Oman.
NCM appealed to road users and motorists to take caution and follow traffic guidelines during fog formation and the low horizontal visibility of sometimes lowest levels on some inland and coastal areas.
Also, the Abu Dhabi Police activated the system of speed reduction to 80 kilometres/hr, on Abu Dhabi Road-Al Ain (Ramah-Wathba), on Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed International Road (Nouf-Hamim), on Suihan Road (Zayed Military City-Adalah), on Abu Dhabi-Al Ain Road (Ghantot-Al Shahama), on Abu Dhabi-Al Ain Road (Al Khatm-Alfaya) and on Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Road (Abu Dhabi - Dubai).
The police called on motorists to adhere to the speed limits set on electronic guides on the emirate's roads during fog.
