The Dubai Criminal Court sentenced four Asians in their presence and two others in absentia to three years in jail to be followed by deportation and fined them Dhs1.48 million for stealing the same amount from an employee as soon as he left a money exchange company in Naif area in Dubai.
The case dates back to September 2022 when an Asian employee working for a jewellery store in Naif area filed a complaint in which he stated that he had been robbed by six Asians.
According to the complainant’s statement, the storeowner assigned him to change SR1.55 million from a money exchange company near his workplace, adding that he put the money inside a bag and went to the company on foot.
The complainant added in the interrogations that after he had changed the money into the local currency, he was surprised by a gang of six Asians blocking his way back to the store and assaulting him before stealing the Dhs1.48 million that was in his possession.
According to the official documents, a policeman stated in the interrogations that a team of detectives gathered inferences, checked the on-site surveillance cameras and managed to identify the suspects.
The four suspects who were arrested confessed to having formed a gang in collaboration with two others to monitor the customers of a money exchange company in Naif area.
They also admitted that the money seized in their possession of over Dhs70,000 was part of their share in the theft, adding that the two other suspects who are still at large took the rest of the money.
