This seems to be a scene straight out of Runaway Bride, starring Richard Gere and Julia Roberts, with a difference. In the film, Roberts, who is commitment-phobic where marriages are concerned, runs away from the altar every time her marriage is fixed. A near similar rerun involves a newly-wed bridegroom from Bengaluru, who escapes from his car while being stuck in a traffic snarl, shocking his wife in the process.
The incident took place on February 16, a day after the man from the Chikkaballabpur area got hitched. While the couple were returning from the church, their vehicle was caught in a traffic snarl. Suddenly, the husband opened the door and bolted. Shocked, his wife too got off the car and ran after him, but could not catch up with him.
The bride’s family, finding no other alternative, decided to seek the help of the police. They lodged a complaint with them on March 5, according to Indo-Asian News Service.
The police discovered that the newly-wed man earlier had an affair with a woman who threatened him with publishing their private photos and videos on social media if he were to get married to someone else.
The man developed the heebie-jeebies and simply vanished.
The bride's family told police that her husband, hailing from Chikkaballapur district, had confessed to them about the blackmail by his former lover.
The bride tried to calm his fears and assured him she and her family would support him come what may.
However, this seemed to be fruitless.
