The UAE Public Prosecution clarified, through a video it published on Saturday on its social media accounts, the penalty for misleading people with ads or fake promotions.
The Public Prosecution indicated that, according to Article 48 of Federal Decree-Law No34 of 2021 regarding combating rumours and cybercrimes, which stipulates that whoever commits, through the world wide network, any information technology means, or a website, one of the following acts: Promoting an item or service through misleading advertisement or a way which includes incorrect data, advertising, promoting, mediating, dealing in any way, or encouraging dealing in a digital or virtual currency, not officially recognised in the UAE, or without obtaining a licence from the competent authority, shall be punished with imprisonment and a fine of not less than Dhs20,000 and not more than Dhs500,000, or one of these two penalties.
That comes within the framework of the Public Prosecution’s ongoing campaign to enhance the legal culture among members of society, dissemination of all new and updated legislations, and raise the level of public awareness of the law, with the aim of spreading the culture of law as a way of life, Public Prosecution indicated.
