The Dubai Criminal Court sentenced a gang of four Asians to three months in jail to be followed by deportation and fined them Dhs5,000 for stealing an environmental filter from a bus parked in a sand area in Al Hamriya.
The case dates back to June last year when a driver filed a complaint in which he stated that a bus belonging to a company he was working for had been robbed.
The complainant added that as soon as he started the bus on the day of the incident, he discovered an abnormal sound coming from the exhaust.
After checking the bus, he discovered that there was something wrong in the exhaust and came to the conclusion that it had been vandalised or part of it had been stolen, he said.
After taking the bus to a workshop for repairing exhausts, the technician told him that the environmental filter, which was estimated at Dhs5,000, had been stolen, he said, adding that he reported the incident to the police.
A policeman stated that a team of detectives managed to identify the suspects after gathering inferences from the place where the bus was parked.
After being arrested, the suspects confessed to having agreed to steal environmental filters from the buses parked in sand areas.
One of them admitted that he had sold a filter to an Asian in a neighbouring emirate for Dhs600.
