The Emirati astronaut Sultan Al Neyadi explained, through a video clip that he shared on his Twitter account from the International Space Station (ISS), the role of astronauts in the Station, and the key experiments that are being conducted in the Columbus Laboratory.
For over 20 years, humans have been conducting experiments in the ISS, Al Neyadi said, noting that he, for example, in the Columbus laboratory, is conducting experiments on materials and liquids, as well as experiments on plant cultivation.
Al Neyadi also pointed out that conducting all these experiments would contribute to developing building materials and other materials that are used on a daily basis, in addition to modifying plants and increasing their production, and many sciences that benefit humanity.
The astronauts themselves are subject to some studies and experiments, to assess the extent of zero gravity effect on humans, and the danger of traveling to deep space in the future, he said, revealing plans of the UAE to return to the moon and go to Mars for the first time.
He indicated that the astronauts are considered materials for study to find out the extent of the effect of lack of gravity on osteoporosis and DNA mutations, as well as blood vessels and their changes.
“The UAE had its first step in the mission in 2019 to the ISS, led by the Emirati astronaut Hazzaa Al Mansouri, and we will continue the march with a 6-month mission, during which we will share many scientific experiments and their results successively during the current period,” Al Neyadi added.
He also expressed his happiness at meeting the followers, hoping to meet everyone personally soon".
