The Dubai Court of Appeal upheld a verdict issued by the Court of First Instance sentencing an African woman and two African men to six months in jail to be followed by deportation for locking up a person who refused to give Dhs800 back to one of the defendants.
The case dates back to August last year when an African filed a complaint in which he stated that his friend had been locked in an apartment in Naif area.
According to the complainant, he received a call from the victim requesting him to bring Dhs800 to a place that he described to him.
The complainant added that he arrived at the described place where he met with one of the defendants who asked him to give Dhs800 to let go of his friend.
As he told the defendant he did not have the money, the complainant rushed to the apartment where his friend was locked up and called the police.
According to the official documents, a team of detectives arrived at the place and arrested the suspects.
The victim stated that he came to the apartment of the African woman based on her invitation and there she asked him to give back the Dhs800 he had earlier borrowed from her.
The victim added that he told the woman he did not have the money at the time but was surprised by two Africans locking him up and asking him to call his friend to bring the needed money to let go of him.
The police, however, raided the place and arrested the three suspects.
The African woman admitted that the victim borrowed a sum of money from her but due to his procrastination, she sought the help of two friends to help her get the money back from the victim.
To do so, the African woman invited the victim to her apartment, where he was locked up with the help of her friends.
