Saudi and Iran foreign ministers hold Ramadan call, vow to meet soon

Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal Bin Farhan Bin Abdullah made a phone call to his Iranian counterpart, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, in which they exchanged congratulations and blessings on the occasion of the blessed Month of Ramadan.

The two ministers agreed to hold a bilateral meeting soon, in order to pave the way for the reopening of embassies and consulates between the two countries.

Saudi officials had announced that the upcoming meeting between the two ministers was the next step in a Chinese-brokered rapprochement announced on March 10, aimed at fully resuming diplomatic relations between the two countries, seven years after they were cut off.

Under the agreement, it is expected that the two countries will reopen their embassies and representations within two months, and implement economic and security cooperation agreements signed more than 20 years ago.

On Sunday, an Iranian official announced that President Ibrahim Raisi had received an invitation from Saudi King Salman Bin Abdulaziz to visit Riyadh, adding that Raisi "welcomed this invitation and confirmed his country's readiness to enhance cooperation."

On the same day, Amir said that the two countries agreed on a future meeting of their foreign ministers, and he referred to three proposed locations for holding this meeting without specifying them.
