The Dubai Criminal Court sentenced two Africans to one year in jail and fined them Dhs1,700 for entering a grocery after midnight and threatening a worker with a knife before forcing him to open the cash register and steal a sum of money equal to the fine.
The case dates back to September last year when an Asian worker filed a complaint in which he stated that he had been robbed under duress.
According to the complainant, he was surprised by two Africans entering the grocery where one of them brandished a large knife and threatened to kill him.
The victim stated in the interrogations that he tried to resist the defendant but the other defendant followed him with an axe and a knife and ordered him to open the cash register.
As he immediately opened the cash register, the two defendants stole Dhs1,700 from it and left the scene.
A policeman stated in the interrogations that a team of detectives gathered inferences and managed to identify the suspects and then to arrest them with Dhs300 in their possession.
According to the official documents, the two defendants confessed to robbing the grocery and dividing the stolen money between them.
