The Dubai Criminal Court sentenced an African to three months in jail to be followed by deportation on charges of robbery under duress.
The defendant attempted to rob three Asians by force after storming their residence while brandishing a knife.
He managed to take Dhs990 from one of them before the victims could bring him under control and hand him over to the police and from there to the public prosecution, which referred him to the court.
The case dates back to September last year when an Asian filed a complaint in which he stated that an African assaulted him and his colleagues and attempted to rob them under duress.
According to the victim’s statement in the interrogations, an African with a strong build suddenly broke into his residence after pushing the door of an apartment, in which he lived with others, with a knife in his hand.
The defendant assaulted him and two others and ordered them to give him all the money they had, the victim said, adding that he took Dhs990 and documents that were in his wallet and attempted to run away.
Helped by his colleagues, however, the victim managed to bring the defendant under control, take the stolen money back and lock him up in the apartment before calling the police.
According to the official documents, the defendant confessed in the public prosecution’s interrogations to have entered the victim’s apartment after violently kicking its exterior door with the aim of robbing the victims.
