Emirati astronaut Sultan Al Neyadi paid rich tribute to late Sheikh Zayed, the founding father of the UAE, to mark the Zayed Humanitarian Day, which falls on 19th of Ramadan every year.
Al Neyadi said on Twitter, “In memory of the man who ingrained in us the passion for kindness, determination, and ambition, I proudly present the flag of the UAE, from space.
This #ZayedHumanitarianDay, I'm humbled to remember the legacy of our founding father and leader, Sheikh Zayed, a visionary and great humanitarian.”
The emirate astronaut put up the UAE flag in one of the windows of the Cupola Observational Module aboard the ISS.
The astronauts use the seven-windowed cupola to monitor the arrival of spaceships at the orbiting lab and view the Earth below.
The Cupola Observational of the International Space Station is also know as the "window to the world."
The Cupola is the panoramic control tower for the ISS, a dome-shaped module with windows for observing and guiding operations outside of the Station. It is a pressurised observation and work area that accommodates command and control workstations and other hardware.
The 360º view means that spacewalks can be observed from Cupola, along with visiting spacecraft and external areas of the ISS. Cupola has an important role in external Station activities.
Social media users were happy to the see the UAE flag put up aboard the ISS.
