Four firefighting teams from the Ras Al Khaimah Civil Defence brought under control a fire that broke out in a major store on Sheikh Mohammed Bin Salem Street on Monday night.
While no fatalities were reported, the efforts of the firefighters helped prevent the fire from spreading to a shopping mall nearby.
According to Brigadier General Mohammed Abdullah Al Zaabi, Director of the Ras Al Khaimah Civil Defense Department, a report was received by the operations room at approximately 8pm on Monday stating that a fire erupted in a major store on Sheikh Mohammed Bin Salem Street.
A brigade led by Colonel Hamad Salmeen, Acting Deputy Director of Ras Al Khaimah Civil Defence Department, instantly rushed to the place and arrived there within only four minutes.
In light of the development of the fire, three firefighting teams were called from Al-Daqdaqah, Al Jazirah Al Hamra and Al Rifa’a stations, while the firefighters began to contain the fire using water and foam to prevent it from spreading to another nearby shopping mall.
The process of extinguishing and dousing the fire took an hour, during which the firefighters made every effort to bring losses to a minimum, Al Zaabi said, noting that the causes of the fire were not yet known and that the site was handed over to the competent authorities in Ras Al Khaimah Police to take the necessary action.
