Statistics showed that the General Department for Anti-Narcotics at Dubai Police nabbed 47% of drug suspects during the first quarter of 2023.
According to the statistics, the Department confiscated 238 kilogrammes of drugs and 6 million narcotic pills in Dubai, constituting 36% of the total amounts seized around the UAE.
The drugs seized included cocaine, heroin, opium, hashish, crystal meth, and marijuana, in addition to different kinds of narcotic pills.
This was revealed during the meeting of the General Department of Anti-Narcotics to evaluate performance during the first quarter of 2023.
The meeting was chaired by Lieutenant General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, Commander in Chief of Dubai Police, with the presence of senior police officials.
Statistics indicated that the Dubai Police also contributed to providing 65 vital pieces of information to various countries during the first quarter of the current year, resulting in the arrest of 65 suspects and seizing of 842 kilogrammes of drugs, including cocaine, heroin, khat, and marijuana.
During the same period, the Department detected and blocked 208 social media accounts promoting drugs, representing 28% of such accounts blocked around the world.
Colonel Abdullah Al Khayat, Director of Hemaya International Centre, said that the total beneficiaries of the centre’s services amounted to 24,204 of various nationalities, with an increase compared to previous years, with a total of 6,092,699 beneficiaries benefiting from social media sites and awareness programmes.
