The Dubai Court of Appeal upheld a verdict issued by the Court of Misdemeanor sentencing a Gulf citizen to one year in jail for abusing heroin and various narcotic drugs obtained from a drug dealer via social media.
Earlier, the defendant was arrested red-handed in his place of residence.
The case dates back to December last year in the Oud Al Muteena area in Dubai when a tip-off was received stating that a Gulf citizen had bought narcotic drugs from a drug dealer outside the country.
According to the official documents, the Gulf citizen deposited Dhs3,800 in the account of a drug dealer in another country.
A team from the General Department of Anti-Narcotics set a trap to arrest the defendant and managed to arrest him with a syringe containing materials suspected to be narcotic drugs.
The seized materials were referred to the forensic lab and a urine sample was taken from the defendant.
The forensic laboratory report stated that the seized materials were heroin, while the General Department of Forensic Science and Criminology’s report stated that the defendant’s urine sample contained compounds of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances.
During the court session, the defendant confessed to the charges levelled to him and asked for clemency.
