Punches were flying more often than the aircraft at Chicago's O'Hare International Airport. The international airport was the talk of every media outlet in the world after videos of a massive brawl between groups of people went viral on social media platforms.
The airport authorities said that at least a dozen people were involved in the rare scuffle. Witnesses said that the fistfight was sparked by a "verbal dispute while deplaning" on Monday.
The Chicago Department of Aviation said in a statement, “Safety and security are always the top priorities of the Chicago Department of Aviation (CDA). We work closely with all of our federal partners present at O'Hare and Midway International Airports and the Chicago Police Department to ensure that everyone is safe when they are in our facilities."
The altercation took a violent turn near the baggage claim area.
A grainy video showed a 24-year-old woman being punched to the ground by two others.
The police were called to the site.
Two people were arrested in connection with the incident.
The police have identified two youngsters, Christopher Hampton, 18, and Tembra Hicks, 20.
The duo have been charged with one misdemeanour count of battery.
The incident took place in the lower level of Terminal 3 showing women and men pouncing on one another like a wrestling match, often using fists and kicks.
The video of the incident has gone viral on social media channels.
The brawlers sustained minor injuries.
A part of the clip also showed women were pinned down to the floor. Some were seen pulling each other’s hair.
The police are conducting a detailed investigation into the incident.
